Summer vacation looks a bit different this year so we're helping you embrace the STAY-cation!

We're all trying to stay closer to home this year and while that might mean your typical summer vacation was canceled, it doesn't mean there's no way to enjoy the summer. So, we've compiled a list of staycation spots within driving distance of Central Alberta. Stay safe and enjoy! 

1. Jarvis Bay Provincial Park & Campground

Whether you’re in a tent, trailer, or RV, Jarvis Bay campground has the perfect site for you. All campsites are powered and there are three dedicated tent sites. Jarvis Bay is a family-friendly campground with some playgrounds for the kids and an interconnected trail system perfect for biking or hiking. Although there is no access to the lake from the campground, it is a short drive to the main beach in the town of Sylvan Lake. 

2. Trailhead Climbing & Fitness

Trailhead is Red Deer’s only climbing gym! They have top rope, lead, and auto-belay climbing as well as bouldering and training space. They have something for all ages and skill levels. Book ahead online and find them in Gasoline Alley, Red Deer!

3. Abraham Lake Hiking

Abraham Lake is located just 2 hours West of Central Alberta and features the spectacular blue color of Canada's glacier lakes. Close to Nordegg, this area is surrounded with wilderness, wide-open spaces, beautiful hikes and mountain heritage. 

4. Ellis Bird Farm

Ellis Bird Farm is both a non-profit company and a working farm located near Lacombe, Alberta. It was established in 1982 to carry on the legacy of Lacombe-area conservationists, Charlie and Winnie Ellis, when their farm was purchased by Union Carbide Canada Ltd. At the time, Charlie and Winnie operated one of the largest bluebird trails in Canada and had established their farmstead as a haven for wildlife. Visit the farm today to participate in a number of nature-related activities, including observing and learning about Central Alberta's bird and bug communities. Bring your young nature enthusiasts for crafts, games, and educational sessions!
